The Hall as seen in this photograph was designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1869 in the Victorian Gothic style, with steeply pitched roofs, conical and octagonal turrets and a 183ft tower. The Hall was demolished in 1963, although the chapel and many of the outbuildings were retained. A new house was built and in the late 1980s it was re-cased and given the appearance of a French château.
The house has been surrounded by formal gardens since the 17th century. A variety of buildings are included in the estate, many of which are listed buildings. The gardens are open on three days a year to raise money for charity.
